It was my great pleasure last night to publish my new music video for ‘That Hat Makes You Look Like An Idiot’. Now, if you have already heard the song and thought to yourself, “This must be what going mad feels like,” fear not. It is an inside joke, and if you are not inside it, it is not likely to make much sense. So I’ll fill you in a little.

Firefly is a beloved sci-fi/western TV series by Joss Whedon which was canceled tragically before its time. It lasted less than a season, but has developed an overwhelming cult following that is unprecedented for a failed television series. The following is so strong that, in 2005, it resulted in the production of a major film Serenity which continues the Firefly story.

The iconic “Jayne hat”, which is the subject of the song, is worn by Adam Baldwin as Jayne in the Firefly episode entitled The Message. If you are unfamiliar with Firefly, that one episode will bring you up to speed on the content of the song. Serendipitously, this release coincides with the scandalous release of an officially licensed hat from Fox and the issue of cease-and-desist noticed to independent creators and sellers of handmade Jayne hats. You can read more about it here: http://www.themarysue.com/jayne-hats-fox/
