The Bardic Arts in An Tir

Last weekend I had the great pleasure of attending my first May Crown Tournament with the Society for Creative Anachronism. It’s a very large worldwide organization of wacky medieval loons like me. Google it if you want to learn more, and find a gathering in your area if you want to see it for yourself. I guarantee fun.

The reason I mention the SCA here is that from Spring 2013 to Spring 2014, I have the honour of being the Bardic Champion of the Kingdom of An Tir (Oregon, Washington, Alberta and Saskatchewan, roughly). That means that all performance arts, including music, storytelling, poetry, puppeteering, juggling and acting fall under my jurisdiction. I am responsible for promoting the bardic arts, helping our bards grow, and organizing competitions and other bardic activities. I also have the great honour of providing music at Their Majesties’ court.

My duties and shenanigans with the SCA are currently comprising an important part of my musical life, so I will be updating you on my medieval antics here. I will be posting beautiful pictures from my time-traveling adventures, and I should have many good stories to tell this year. I hope you enjoy them.
