Yesterday I made the following Facebook status update:
It was an epic journey indeed, especially when I got to Anthony’s neighbourhood where the snow was up to my knees in places. It was an invigorating swim. Got there just in time and had a very productive session, even without David Sharow, whom you’ll remember as my bassist from Heroincredible. He was coming in to record bass on Go From Hence, my hard-hitting acoustic rock song about a notorious pirate crew being brought to justice. He was stranded by the weather, as is wont to happen here in the freezy north, but instead we recorded all the vocals for To Forget I Am Ashamed and The Sushi Bar at the End of the Universe, both songs graced with gorgeous piano parts from Luke Bowman.
This was the fourth Patience studio session. The first three were focused on Go From Hence and Man Overboard, both pirate songs made brilliant by the high-calibre stylings of violinist Sonia Shklarov.
I am excited to go back in January to get started on more songs, like Squalling Stardust, Just A Minute, Natalia, and Twenty-One Nights – not to mention the impending awesomeness of working with lots of talented session players, including Bass Dave, my new cellist, and a string quartet (thank you Sora for the deep quartet lust). Come back for more updates on the process of making this album, which you have helped make possible.
The self-produced version of To Forget I Am Ashamed is featured on my limited-edition EP The Wine-Dark Sea, and is also available for streaming or download under Spring 2013 Demo on the “Listen & Buy” page.
