Can’t Stop the Serenity Edmonton was a blast! I love working with the Alberta Browncoats. I’ve been working with them since the Pure Speculation Festival last year when I played at their shindig for booze.
Funny thing about playing for booze…if they keep bringing you shots, you’re contractually obligated to keep playing. The whole audience got in on the joke of getting me drunk, and it was ridiculously fun. Shortly after that, they contacted me for two paying gigs: the April Shindig during the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, and Can’t Stop the Serenity Edmonton which ran on June 22nd.
Getting up there was an adventure with the Calgary floods, but I made it, and they treated me like gold. I had the pleasure of playing at the Garneau Theatre for a bunch of geeks (my very FAVOURITE kind of audience!), and I premiered my new song, Molasses, about the molasses flood in Boston 1919.
The event was a fabulous success at raising money for charity. Here is the breakdown of funds earned, as announced on theĀ Alberta Browncoats’ Facebook page: $712 to Kids Need to Read, $667.22 to Youth Empowerment and Support Services, $2001.67 to Equality Now, and $798.12 to the Red Cross.
I want to thank Sheelagh and Drew Semper for booking me and getting me out there, and to Nanc Price for taking these gorgeous photos and giving me permission to post them here.
